Photo and text by: Mahmoud El-Marzouki & Mohamed Habib

TURKEY TRAVEL and TOURISM EXHIBITMore than 40 countries including, Dubai, Shanghai, Seychelles, Egypt, Morocco, Indonesia, Italy, Cuba, South Africa, Spain, India, Bulgaria, Greece, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Libya, Romania, Germany, Russian, Ukraine, Syria, Tunisia, Malaysia etc. are participating in EMITT 2005 EXHIBITION this year. According to the Turkish statistics on outgoing travel market in Turkey:

There is a population of 12 million in Turkey with the same income level as the European countries. 3.4 million people have an average income of US$ 22.345 and more, 3.5 million have an average income of US$ 7250 and more, 3.5 million have an average income between US$ 5500-7500. By examining these statistics, we can see that there is a population in Turkey that has an average income of more than 15,000 USD, like the total population of Belgium. Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, Red Sea Association & Travel Agents realize this opportunity as a potential market and participated in the EMITT 2005 by way of the following:
Egyptian Tourism Authority.
Chamber of Tourism Establishments and The Red Sea Association.
Al Tayyar Group.
Charisma Travel.
Karnak Egypt Air.
Pyramisa Hotel Nile Cruises.
El -Tarek Travel.
Esterella Tours.
Memnon Tours.
Raouf Hotels International.
The Chamber of Tourism Establishments & The Red Sea Association represented by:
Mr. Mahmoud El-Marzouki, Vice Chairman of Red Sea Association.
Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Habib, Board Director & Environment Committee Co-ordinator of Red Sea Association.
The Red Sea Association provided the funds for the promotional materials; post cards, brochures, giant banners, cookies, candy and the H2O magazine were used as our tourism promotional tools. During the exhibition more than 300 kg of the above material and 2000 copies of the magazine were distributed during the 4 day exhibition.
From the discussions with the visitors at the show, the representatives discovered that Turkish tourists prefer cultural tours and city tours. Most of the Turkish tourists who travel abroad participate in cultural and shopping based tours, most of them prefer the favorite ski centers of Europe. Turkish tourists spend more than the average Europeans on their travels. They send an average of 1000 USD per week. However, many travel agents are willing to send more tourists and divers to the Red Sea.

Finally … legitimate

We are pleased to inform you that after several years of lobbying and through the efforts of Dr Mohamed Saleh President of the EUF and member of parliament, the Egyptian Parliament has approved legislation proposed by Dr Saleh and Mr Emad Gelda to amend law no 1 for 1973 of Toursitic and Hotel establishments as follows.

A new article to be added to the said law stating that:

Minister of Tourism may add new activities including those engaged in diving and water sports activities.
HE Minister of Tourism will be shortly issuing the executive regulations regarding our sector.
This is a very positive breakthrough that we have been all working on with Dr Saleh and culminates our presentation to the parliament some three years ago about the importance of our sector to the national economy and our legitimate right to be fully recognized as a vital stand alone toursitic sector.
We will inform you in due course of the executive regulations as soon as they are out.

EULF Red Sea Tour

EULFThe Egyptian Underwater and Life Saving Federation (EULF), under the new leadership of Chairman
Dr Mohamed Saleh, started the ‘2005 Dive Centre Inspection’ with a comprehensive tour of the Red Sea. Starting in Marsa Alam in the south and working their way north to end in Hurghada.

The inspection of all dive centres in the Red Sea is now carried out by the EULF in conjunction with representatives from the Ministry of Tourism (diving department) and the Red Sea Association for Diving and Watersports.

This year EULF Chairman Dr. Mohamed Saleh held three meetings; in Marsa Alam, Safaga and Hurghada on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of April respectively. Attending were all the dive centres and boat operators in the region. The aim of the meetings was to outline the new vision of the EULF, to support the industry and at the same time to have the opportunity to hear first hand from the stakeholders about any problems they are encountering or suggestions they may have.

This was an excellent platform, as Dr Mohamed Saleh was able to speak and listen not only as Chairman of the Federation but also as head of the Minister of Tourism Technical Advisory Committee for Diving. Given that the attendance was quite impressive with over 120 members present in the Hurghada meeting (plus full houses in Safaga and Marsa Alam) which allowed for a number of key issues of concern to the stakeholders to be discussed at length with the EULF, the MOT and the Association such as work permit procedures, dive centre and safari boat classifications with the Ministry of Tourism amongst others.
