The European Underwater Federation (EUF) held their General Assembly in December in Amsterdam. At this meeting the EUF Executive Board members were elected. Mark Caney (a PADI Vice President) was elected President for a second term, Deric Ellerby (former Executive Director of BSAC International Ltd) continues as Secretary and Martin Denison is Treasurer. They will serve until the end of 2012. Other Board members are Michael Hansen, Jack Lavanchy (representing RSTC Europe) and John Remue (representing CMAS Europe).
The EUF is a body representing the interests of over three million divers in the European region and has a membership consisting of a broad range of European training agencies, including both for-profit and non-profit organisations. The EUF has become a highly influential body within world of diving, in part through its involvement in EUF Certification International; a separate body that audits training systems and, where appropriate, certifies them as being compliant with European and ISO Standards for Recreational Diving. Such certification has become a legal requirement for dive operations in several countries such as Egypt and Greece.
