Egypt in the picture

Coming back from the southern dive sites of Dahab in the afternoon, driving with the car over the last hill, looking down to the lagoon with its surfers - this is always a magnificent moment.

There are only a few places in the world that offer such an incredible “blue hour” - the time shortly before sunset - to professional photographers and videographers like the Red Sea Riviera does. The warm light and powerful colours can easily be compared to well known places like Miami Beach, where photographers from all over the world “shoot” famous models on the beach for expensive advertisment campaigns.

Along the coast between Sharm El Sheikh and Taba one will find breathtaking areas where mountains meet the ocean. Only a few metres divide the yellow, red and grey stones from the blue and green of the sea. Even after travelling to more than thirty countries it’s the only place I know in the world where you can see Bedouins with desert camels walking along the shore.

Egypt and the Red Sea Riviera offer even more than a beautiful landscape. The beauty of the underwater world, the rich life and the colours of the coral reefs have been photographed and published in magazines around the globe. Spots like the famous SS Thistlegorm, Dahab’s “Blue Hole”, the Ras Mohammed National Park or the dugong in Marsa Alam are just a few spots that have attracted hundreds of professional photographers in the past and will do so in the future.

I was asked three times in 2006 alone to visit Egypt, take pictures and write articles for different European magazines. See, editors like it too ! Beside the never ending row of photo motifs, Egypt provides warm and clear waters and the necessary infrastructure for working easily at a high level. If you love to take pictures on your holidays - no matter if you do it on land, or while snorkelling or diving - Egypt is a perfect destination.
Bring your own camera or rent one in one of the many dive centres around. And if you’re not sure how to use it under water - there are enough professionals happy to show you a successful way to your own personal photo experience. Who knows... If you like underwater photography and practise a bit while diving in the Red Sea - maybe you’ll join one of the next competitions for photographers held in Egypt.
