I have read with interest your article on Risk Factors in Diving which I found very informative. I was particularly interested in the section on PFO (Patent Foramen Ovale) as I have a friend who has been diagnosed with one. He suffered a serious decompression incident following a rapid ascent from only 7 meters after only a few minutes and I never really understood why. It was only after this incident that his condition was fully investigated and then only because his symptoms were so severe after a short shallow dive well within all existing dive tables.  He is now diving again but his diving is substantially curtailed.

Thank you for this information. It has really helped – well done H2O.
