Mooring Lines for Hebat Allah

Permanent boat moorings have now been laid on the wreck of the 51m Hebat Allah, which lies at a depth of 45m, near Abu Ramada Island by HEPCA.  The Hebat Allah is an artificial reef created in 2004 and opened for divers in 2005. Since then she has been visited frequently by technical divers who find her sitting bolt upright on a flat sandy bottom not far from an established coral reef.

Although little is known about the Hebat Allah before she was sunk it seems she sat on a sand bank near Safaga for around 15 years before being purchased by an unknown buyer who happily donated her to the Red Sea Governerate. A special fund was set up to finance her conversion into an artificial reef and her sinking in August 2004 as a marine research site. It would seem that since her sinking a number of species have made this their home including groupers, lionfish, various schooling fish and a turtle. The moorings should improve safety for divers at the site as well as prevent damage from shot-lines being dropped into the vessel.
