No More Shark Skin Wrist Bands

A major online retailer has announced that it has removed from its range all products made from exotic animal skins, including shark, stingray and eel.

Overstock.com, based in Salt Lake City and selling brand name merchandise world-wide through the internet, will no longer feature luggage that uses alligator skin; shoes made of kangaroo, snake, ostrich and alligator skin; and watchbands of snake, shark and stingray skin. They have been talking with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and are concerned about the inhumane methods used to acquire these skins.

This latest measure follows a similar move in 2008 when clothing and accessories made from fur along with items made from ivory were removed from their product range.
