Two well-known equipment brands are recalling equipment because problems have come to light which could represent serious problems for divers:
Dive Rite Wings
In December 2009 Lamartek Inc of Florida issued a recall for around 16,000 Dive Rite Wings manufactured between June 2006 and October 2008. The wings have a faulty overpressure valve spring which could rust and fail allowing the wing to leak and posing a drowning hazard to divers. Owners of affected wings should return them immediately to their retailer for a free spring replacement. The models recalled are Travel, Venture, Rec, Trek, Classic, Nomad and Super Wings. The wings were sold in red, blue or black. Springs were used on wings that have an opaque white or blue tinted bladder and welded in flanges. Wings with a black bladder are not affected. Only the Dive Rite wings that have a serial number range from 42000 through 72000 are affected by this recall. The serial numbers can be found on a white tag attached along a seam of the wing.
Cressi-sub Ellipse Black MC5 Regulators
In December Cressi-sub USA of New Jersey announced the recall of all Ellipse Black MC5 regulators sold between March and August 2009. The regulators, which were manufactured in Italy, have “Cressi MC5” and “Cressi Black” printed on them. These models have a partial obstruction in the high pressure port causing an inaccurate reading on the pressure gauge with the potential risk of drowning for divers. Divers should return their units to an authorized retailer for a free repair. These units were widely sold on the internet and internationally through authorized dealerships. Around 200 units are affected.
