El Gouna's 20th Birthday

15,000 El Gouna residents have every reason to celebrate: The lagoon city on the Red Sea is 20! El Gouna - once only somewhere for the Egyptian Samih Sawiris to anchor his boat - is today a quaint little town with an impressive infra-structure and great plans for the future. From 20 until 25 September and again from 27 November to 01 December a massive celebration, with numerous concerts, art, music was held in the lagoon city.

Two six-day long celebrations were held in El Gouna - in downtown Kafr El Gouna, Abu Tig Marina, the clubs and bars, and of course in the open. Under the motto "20 years El Gouna: strong and grooving," the lagoon city celebrated with guests, residents and staff all that has been achieved in the last 20 years - from the successful entry into sustainable tourism, to the development of the second to Marina and the unique infrastructure that makes El Gouna the impressive small city it is today.

The various events were freely accessible to all and catered for all tastes. Among the highlights listed were, the Chinese circus show in Tamr Henna, the Brazilian Tropical live show and an impressive demonstration by the Shaolin monks with band in the Abu Tig Marina. Then there were the countless live bands and DJs that made the night seem like the day in El Gouna and the grand opening of the new restaurant "Papa's Iceland" in the marina.

El Gouna has a lot planned: Only 10.8 million square meters of a total of 36.8 million square meters have been developed. The remaining area offers countless opportunities that the city planners will study hard and develop according to local needs: At the beginning of this year, the second dock of the Abu Tig Marina was finished; from here boats up to 60 feet in length can anchor. Two new three-star hotels are planned and in Kafr El Gouna the El Kahn hotel will re-open. During 2010, two new absolutely top class boutique hotels will start to receive their guests.
