Photo Workshops

Well known journalist and photographer, Stuart Philpott, will be running a series of underwater photography workshops at Taba Heights Resort from January 2010. This will be in partnership with Longwood Holidays and Waterworld Diving and Watersports Centre.

Taba’s coastal waters provide a perfect setting for Stuart’s courses. There are virtually no currents, clear waters, shallow sites (between 5m – 20m) and of course, plenty of guaranteed sunshine. Waterworld are a ‘photography friendly’ dive centre offering special prep areas and freshwater dunk tanks on all their boats. There is also a new house reef specifically designed for photographic training.

Stuart is no stranger to TabaHeights. From 2004 – 2007 he owned the Photo-Centre at Waterworld Diving and Watersports Centre. During this time he clocked up more than a 1,000 dives and took over 50,000 digital images. Stuart has been diving for more than 20 years and works as a fulltime travel journalist writing. He has also written the one and only dive guide on Taba’s top sites. The new edition, launched later this year, will include more than twenty sites, maps, information on Hotels, dive centres, local areas of interest etc. Stuart is also a PADI, SSI, BSAC and TDI Instructor and will be offering course certification for a number of agencies during the workshops.

The exciting itinerary covers all aspects of underwater photography from camera maintenance to post-editing and includes boat and shore diving as well as macro, wide angle, using models and marketing your very own images. There will also be a mini photo competition and a beachside barbecue to round off the week.

Stuart’s workshops are designed for beginners and intermediates with either compacts or housed DSLR’s. Stuart wants to keep the courses small and personal allowing plenty of time for self-critique and improvement. Non-diving partners and families are also welcome to join in. The Resort itself offers top class accommodation with shops, restaurants and an 18-hole PGA Golf course.

With the Red Sea having a little too much of the good things on offer, it’s easy to retreat into clichés when writing about diving there.
